CASTING CALL – THE WOMAN / THE MAN

Columbia School of the Arts MFA Thesis Productions

Casting “The Woman / The Man,” a double feature Columbia School of the Arts MFA Directing Thesis Productions. Headed by director and Emmy-nominated choreographer, Jeffrey Page. “The Woman / The Man” will be comprised of an ensemble-based company of 13 actors performing two plays: Adrienne Kennedy’s “Funnyhouse of a Negro” and Suzan-Lori Parks’ “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World.” We are especially interested in actors who can sing and move well.

AEA SHOWCASE CODE:

This production is under the Equity Showcase Code and we are seeking both union and non-union actors. AEA cast members will receive a flat fee in lieu of travel reimbursement. Non-union cast members will receive a small stipend.

If selected for an audition, you will be asked to prepare 1 memorized monologue (1-2 minutes) of your own choosing and be as familiar as possible with additional sides as requested by the director (you may audition with sides in hand if needed).

ROLES:

Actor #1 (Female, 20s) will play Sarah in “Funnyhouse of a Negro” and Prunes and Prisms in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.

Actor #2 (Male, 20s-60s) will play Back Man with Watermelon in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.

Actor #3 (Male, 20s-60s) will play Patrice Lumumba in “Funnyhouse of a Negro” and Lots of Grease and Lots of Pork in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.

Actor #4 (Female, 20s-60s) will play Queen Victoria Regina in “Funnyhouse of a Negro” and Queen-Then-Pharaoh Hatshupsut in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.

Actor #5 (Female, 20s-60s) will play Duchess of Hapsburg in “Funnyhouse of a Negro” and Voice On Thuh Tee V in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.

Actor #6 (Male, 20s-30s) will play Jesus in “Funnyhouse of a Negro” and Yes and Greens Black-Eyed Peas Cornbread in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.

Actor #7 (Male, 20s-60s) will play Before Columbus in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.

Actor #8 (Male, 20s-60s) will play Old Man River Jordan in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.

Actor #9 (Male, 20s-60s) will play Ham in “The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World”.
