BLACKBOARD: Tell us a little but about yourself and why you write….JAMES: I was born in California, but grew up in Las Vegas, NV. I’ve lived a few places Wilberforce, Ohio where I went to school at Central State University and Washington, D.C. – I studied film at Howard University in a MFA Program, and I lived in LA before moving here to New York.
Set in the small religious town of Greenwald, Mississippi, “Some Old Black Man”, is the story of irascible, anti-religious, 82 year old Donald Jones. He is a man resistant to change, but as his health declines he faces the inevitable.

I love community nights! I love them for their unexpectedness! Monday, June 11th brought 4 new playwrights who presented their work.
The vibe was perfect, and as they entered the front door of the cell on 23rd -conversations started naturally.
Community Nights have become a staple of Blackboard and set us apart from all the rest. Think of it as an open mic for playwrights.
“I Black Woman I”, written by Franz Reynold, is a work for the theater that seeks to challenge the limited concepts attributed to our potential. It speaks to all of us who hold our dreams sacred and strive for a more sublime self, rooted in enlightened consciousness.
