Ohio University Theater Division invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Musical Theater and a full time Lecturer of Lighting & Projection Design for Fall 2018. The university seeks faculty members who bring a critical perspective to issues of diversity and multiculturalism and is invested in hiring faculty members who can contribute to the climate of diversity in the Theater Division.

POSITION #1: Assistant Professor to Lead Musical Theater Program

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will develop and lead a new BFA Musical Theater track in conjunction with the established BFA in Performance track. When the program is fully developed, a teaching load of three courses per semester is expected, which could include such topics as auditioning, acting, and musical theater performance. The candidate will direct productions; being able to serve as a choreographer or music director is desirable. Courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise will also be considered. The successful candidate will shape the new Musical Theater track by guiding the search for three additional faculty members in Theater, Dance, and Music. Additional duties include advising, coaching, committee work, and recruiting. Our current BFA and MFA in Acting programs emphasize performance through the authentic use of the self. Preferred Qualifications:
Professional experience as a director or actor; experience as a choreographer or musical director is valued
Terminal degree – MFA or MM in Musical Theater; MFA in Directing or Acting
Extensive knowledge of both traditional and contemporary musical theater repertoire
Effective collaborative, organizational and interpersonal skills with students, performance faculty, administrative staff, and production faculty and staff
Demonstrated commitment to student-centered educational experience
Demonstrated ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse student body, and staff
AEA or SDC membership

POSITION #2: Lecturer of Lighting & Projection Design
Responsibilities:
To provide artistic and educational leadership for the lighting and projection design area. Teaching lighting design in MFA and BFA programs, introduction to design skills, Vectorworks, Lightwright and associated paperwork, and Cueing classes. Teach projection design as a secondary area. Critically important is strong supervision and mentorship of student designers including portfolio guidance and facilitating professional internships. Additional duties include participation in production planning, student recruitment, and service on academic committees.
This position requires days, nights, and weekends as needed, including, but not limited to, all designer runs, technical and dress rehearsals. Hours required as dictated by academic and production schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:
MFA or equivalent in Lighting Design or comparable professional training.
Secondary interest, experience and skills in Projection Design.
Strong background in professional theatrical design and/or entertainment industry, with connections to the New York or significant regional theater markets.
Demonstrated skills in graduate and undergraduate-level teaching.
High degree of interpretive, interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative relationship with faculty and staff.
Knowledge of industry standard lighting and projection design software, including Vectorworks, Lightwright, Watchout and Isadora.
Interest and/or skills in Performance Photography.
